Summary

Zaccheaus is saved: “since he also is a son of Abraham, for the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” How dare we tell Jesus that He can seek but cannot find! The story is not dependent on Zaccheaus. Zaccheaus is dependent on the story. When we tell the story as if it depends on us, we give glory to men and create pride, fear, doubt, anxiety and shame; we create false men trapped in hell. When we tell the story as if it depends on God and “it is finished,” we give glory to God, His Story creates men and women in His own image and we begin to sing with the angels. God has arranged all things to meet you at the tree and tell you good news: “I must abide at your house this day!”
