Question: Do you believe that God the Father left Jesus at the cross?

Response: I believe that “God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself” (2 Cor. 5:19 NKJV). I think Jesus felt forsaken by God, but He was not forsaken by God.

Psalm 22 describes the crucifixion. In verse 1 we read, “My God my God, why have you forsaken me?” and in verse 24: “He has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and he has not hidden his face from him, but has heard, when he cried to him.”

Sin blinds our eyes to God, but it does not blind God’s eyes to us. So when Jesus took on all our sin, He entered our blindness and felt forsaken by God, but I do not believe God forsook Jesus or even left Jesus. The Father was in Jesus reconciling the world to Himself.
