Faith

The second candle of Advent represents faith. It is called the “Bethlehem Candle” and it is a reminder of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem; it is also a reminder of our own faith journeys & how the Spirit is at work in each one of us revealing Immanuel—God with us and within us.

Included in the PDF download below are portions of Scripture to remind us of those who have journeyed in faith before us. May they bring you encouragement in your own journey. While reading each portion, consider asking the Holy Spirit what He wants to reveal to you about faith and Immanuel—God with us, within us, and revealed in us.

As we reflect on these passages, it is my prayer that we would feel encouraged by the great cloud of witnesses that have journeyed in faith before us (see Hebrews 11) and—as believers that Jesus is Savior of ALL—we would contemplate and be especially encouraged by this: (Heb. 11:1-38: a long list of those who journeyed in faith before us and then . . . ) “These were all commended for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised. God had planned something better for us, so that together with us they would be made perfect.”

Did you know we’re discussing these things in a Facebook group at Hope For All Connection Group? We’d love it if you shared your thoughts there in the comments section under the Advent post titled “FAITH” (Week 2). For more details about how to participate in that conversation go to HopeForAllConnection.com , click on “What’s New?” And follow the instructions on the “Advent Discussion” slide.
